Wim’s story

During the year 1967 I ran in a couple of 3TA’s. At that time I was in the National Service joining the 11th Department Rolling Artillery, also called 11AFDRA or,  more common, the Yellow Riders (named after the Ten Day’s Campaign against the Southern Netherlands in 1830). This Department was encamped in the Oranjekazerne (Oranje Barracks) in Schaarsbergen. It was a Department of the First Division and hence a prepared section of the Dutch Forces during the Cold War. The battle ground of this unit was located in the German Lowland. Until the introduction of the 3TA, the ordinances of this department were riding 350 cc single cylinder  Matchless motor bikes from – if I remember correctly – 1953/1954. I clearly remember 3TA’s smooth running compared to the Matchless. Especially the sound was impressive!

A short list in A4 format came with every 3TA, showing a picture of the left and right side of the bike and a listing of the accessories, viz. bike lock, tools, vehicle- and maintenance documents.
